With version 7 of the Network Node Manager, HP has overhauled the core of its OpenView suite. We have examined the new features and the new user interface, in both detail and practice, and we have compared the results with previous versions. Our new Product Analysis shows you where the improvements are, and what you can expect from the new version.
You can download the analysis for free.
For instance, the license structure of the product changed with the introduction of version 7. Up to version 6.x the entry barrier was rather high, because the Node Manager was licensed according to the number of managed devices. Now, with version 7, a Starter Edition (SE), which has reduced costs and functions, is also available alongside an Advanced Edition (AE).
In particular, our tests examine and evaluate the new web-based product architecture which offers views of the technologies and systems located within the network using so-called Dynamic Views. It makes these available enterprise-wide using standard Web-browsers. Beyond this, the analysis shows the handling of so-called Overlapping IP Domains (duplicate IP ranges), the management of HSRP and OSPF constellations, the new "Composer" interface for event correlation, and a highlight of the product - the Advanced Problem Analyzer (APA). In this version the APA polls the HSRP and OAD (Overlapping Address Domain) environments. In the next product versions it also uses complete status polling of all devices.
